A man was brutally killed by a mob in a village, where they mutilated his body and paraded it through the streets on allegations of raping a disabled woman. The victim, identified as Ali, was targeted by angry locals in Gowa, Indonesia, following accusations of assaulting the woman on November 30. The incident left the alleged victim severely injured and traumatized, sparking anger within the community. Ali sought refuge at a relative’s house and later fled into nearby woods to evade the villagers’ wrath but was apprehended on December 3 when he emerged from the forest in search of food.
The man, known for engaging in theft in the area, was immediately recognized by onlookers who then proceeded to attack him with sticks, stones, and machetes. Shocking video footage captured the violent assault on Ali, who was tied up, as a large group of people marched through villages recording the incident on their smartphones. Reports indicate that the mob mutilated his genitals before parading his lifeless body around the area, with residents cheering as motorcycles transported his body along a road.
Senior Adjunct Commissioner Muhammad Aldy Sulaeman, the Chief of Gowa Police, confirmed the incident and mentioned that law enforcement swiftly responded to the situation in Rappolemba Village. He emphasized the need to maintain control over the situation and assured that security measures were being reinforced to prevent further escalation. The police are investigating the circumstances surrounding the incident, including the allegations of rape, and have deployed various units to manage the situation effectively.
Local residents also claimed that Ali was a convicted burglar who had recently been released from prison. According to one villager, Enal, the community had been searching for Ali after the alleged assault on the disabled woman. Ali initially sought refuge at a relative’s house before relocating to a forested area within Rappolemba village.
