“NHS Paramedic Suspended for Concealing Fatal Conviction”

A senior paramedic working with the NHS has been suspended from the register for causing the death of a pedestrian. Bradley Osner, aged 47, failed to disclose this conviction when renewing his registration multiple times to continue his work with the London Ambulance Service and a private healthcare company. Osner, a father of two, started working in London in 2016 after relocating from South Africa.

The incident in question occurred in South Africa, where Osner faced charges of culpable homicide for a fatal pedestrian accident while driving. This incident took place in 2002, and Osner later pled guilty to the charges during a trial in 2016. Despite this, Osner did not disclose this conviction when renewing his registration between 2017 and 2023.

During a recent hearing, Osner claimed that he was under the impression that the case had been closed with no further action following the incident. However, about five years later, the police contacted him, stating that the case needed further consideration as it was not closed. The South African prosecutors initiated legal proceedings against Osner for culpable homicide.

Following the revelation of Osner’s concealment, a tribunal found him guilty of misconduct for not disclosing his conviction to the Health and Care Professions Council (HCPC) over several years. As a result, Osner has been suspended from the HCPC for 12 months, until November 2026. Despite his assertion that he was unaware of his conviction until 2024, the panel criticized Osner for his lack of transparency and insight.

The panel acknowledged Osner’s clinical competence and experience, stating that there were no concerns about his ability to care for patients. They also indicated that they did not believe Osner posed a risk to the public in his clinical practice. Osner, who resides in Milton Keynes, Buckinghamshire, was noted for his professional qualifications and experience in the field.
