A nursery worker has confessed to sexually assaulting toddlers as young as two, recording the disturbing acts to create twisted videos for a “comedic” effect. Vincent Chan, aged 45, sexually abused four children under his care at a nursery in north London between August 2022 and June 2024. Chan has pleaded guilty to 26 charges, including various counts of sexual assault and taking indecent photos of children.
He admitted to creating indecent images of children, including Category A images depicting severe abuse. The affected families are receiving direct support, with an NSPCC helpline established for parents whose children were at the nursery to seek assistance and discuss concerns.
Chan, residing in Stanhope Avenue, Finchley, worked at the nursery for almost seven years before his crimes were exposed. During his court appearance, he acknowledged his guilt to each charge brought against him. Detective Superintendent Lewis Basford expressed deep shock and distress over the offenses, highlighting Chan’s predatory behavior and calculated abuse spanning several years.
Chan’s arrest came after a colleague reported his suspicious behavior of filming infants using the nursery-issued iPad. He would manipulate the footage with additions and music, sharing the altered images with coworkers for entertainment. Upon seizing his devices, including those from his home and the nursery, authorities discovered a significant number of indecent images and evidence of his offenses.
Families of the affected children, represented by lawyers at Leigh Day, expressed their horror at the abuse their children endured and their relief that Chan admitted to the charges. The videos captured the depraved acts occurring at the nursery while Chan was supposed to be supervising the children. Following further investigations and seizures of digital devices, more potential victims have been identified, and their families are receiving support.
Police continue to scrutinize the gathered materials for any additional evidence. As the legal process unfolds, the families trust that justice will be served for the heinous crimes committed against their innocent children.
