“Pregnant Teen’s Lawyer Slams British Embassy Over Lack of Support”

The attorney representing Bella Culley, a pregnant teenager facing drug-related charges in Georgia, has criticized the British embassy for allegedly not providing adequate assistance. Despite potential negotiations for a plea deal that could lead to her release, the lawyer expressed dissatisfaction with the embassy’s lack of support. Bella, who is five months pregnant, has reportedly not received any visits or written references from the embassy since her family hired legal representation.

The Foreign Office stated that they are in contact with Bella’s family and local authorities, confirming only one prison visit on May 16. Bella’s recent court hearing in Tbilisi suggested the possibility of a plea agreement that could result in her release upon payment of an undisclosed fine, following her claims of being coerced. Both the prosecution and defense acknowledged the strength of the evidence presented, with the judge denying bail and scheduling the next hearing for October 9.

Following the hearing, Bella’s lawyer indicated that discussions regarding the plea agreement were progressing, contingent on the financial aspect. Bella’s mother, who attended the hearing, expressed her love for her daughter. Bella, originally from Billingham, Teesside, was detained in Georgia after being found with illegal substances in her luggage. Despite asserting her innocence, Bella emphasized the challenging circumstances she faced.

In a subsequent court session, it was revealed that Bella is expecting a baby boy. She shared her perspective with the judge, expressing disbelief over the unfolding events.
