If the temperature drops below zero degrees for seven consecutive days in your area, you may qualify for £25 Cold Weather Payments during the winter season.
The Cold Weather Payment program for 2025/26 has just begun, offering £25 for each period of sub-zero temperatures experienced where you reside.
Individuals can receive multiple Cold Weather Payments if their area encounters several freezing spells throughout the winter months, with the Department for Work and Pensions (DWP) responsible for distributing these payments.
To be eligible, individuals must be receiving specific benefits such as Income Support, Income-based Jobseeker’s Allowance, or Income-related Employment and Support Allowance.
If you are entitled to a Cold Weather Payment, it will be automatically deposited into your bank account within 14 working days, without the need for an application in most cases. However, exceptions include situations involving infants or children under five moving in with you.
For those receiving Income Support, Income-based Jobseeker’s Allowance, or Income-related Employment and Support Allowance, reaching out to Jobcentre Plus is necessary to claim a Cold Weather Payment.
The Cold Weather Payment initiative will continue until March 31, 2026, with the Winter Heating Payment serving as the alternative in Scotland, offering £59.75 to eligible individuals.
Cold Weather Payments are not applicable in Scotland, where they have been replaced by the Winter Heating Payment offering £59.75.
