It’s crucial to highlight that the coin holds significant worth if it is dated 2009, as the version from 2011 is more common and therefore less valuable. The Coin Collecting Wizard, in a video shared on TikTok, emphasized the rarity of the 2009 version, which was struck in limited quantities and distributed to competition participants and winners in special presentation packs.
With only around 20,000 of these 2009 Blue Peter athletics 50p coins in circulation, they are considered scarcer than the standard 2011 version. This rarity, coupled with its association with the competition, has made it one of the most sought-after modern UK coins, often fetching prices ranging from £150 to £200 in good condition.
