Richard Hopkins, the former head of Red Bull, has shared an update on Michael Schumacher’s health status and expressed his belief that the public may not have the opportunity to see the Formula 1 icon again. Following a skiing accident in December 2013 that resulted in a head injury for Schumacher, details about his health have been kept confidential.
Since being placed in a medically induced coma shortly after the incident almost 12 years ago, information about Schumacher’s condition has remained shielded from the public eye. Hopkins, who built a close relationship with Schumacher during their time in Formula 1, emphasized the importance of respecting Schumacher’s privacy regarding his health.
In a recent interview with Sportbible, Hopkins mentioned that he is not privy to recent updates on Schumacher’s health status, noting that the family has maintained a tight circle of information around the situation. He expressed his reservations about discussing Schumacher’s condition, recognizing the family’s desire to keep it confidential.
Despite his friendship with Schumacher dating back to the 1990s when they were both involved in the world of Formula 1, Hopkins acknowledged that he is not part of Schumacher’s inner circle. He highlighted the need for discretion and respect when it comes to Schumacher’s well-being, echoing the sentiments shared by other close acquaintances like Jean Todt, Ross Brawn, and Gerhard Berger.
Hopkins emphasized the level of confidentiality surrounding Schumacher’s condition, stating that even close friends like Ross Brawn would not divulge any details, out of respect for the family’s wishes. He stressed the importance of maintaining the family’s privacy and confidentiality, even if he had any information, to honor their wishes and show respect towards them.
