Ronnie O’Sullivan is set to create history by aiming to secure two world titles at the Crucible within a single month. The 50-year-old, known for his competitive spirit, will compete against players on the senior circuit while also vying for his eighth World Championship title in his 34th consecutive appearance.
Scheduled to participate in the World Seniors Snooker Championship starting on May 6, O’Sullivan will make his debut in the senior tournament, held over five days in Yorkshire. The World Seniors Snooker Tour has confirmed his participation, highlighting him as a prominent figure in the sport and headlining the event alongside other world champions like Mark Williams, Stuart Bingham, and Ken Doherty.
The tournament will feature a strong field of players, including Jimmy White, Matthew Stevens, and reigning Seniors British Open Champion Joe Perry, among others. Chairman Jason Francis expressed excitement about O’Sullivan’s debut, anticipating increased ticket sales and heightened interest due to the renowned player’s presence.
Following changes to the eligibility criteria by the World Snooker Tour post the 2025 World Championship, professional players aged 45 or older and ranked in the top 64 can now compete in the veterans circuit. O’Sullivan, with seven world titles to his name, aims to secure another championship after his last victory in 2022, equalling Stephen Hendry’s record.
Hendry, a former world champion, has acknowledged O’Sullivan’s achievements and expressed his willingness for O’Sullivan to win an eighth title, emphasizing the significance of winning at a young age.
