“Russian Bombardment Kills Six in Ukraine Amid Peace Deal Talks”

Russian military commanders launched nearly 500 bombs at Ukraine overnight, resulting in the deaths of six individuals amidst indications that Ukraine might have agreed to a significant peace deal brokered by the US. Prior to Kyiv signaling potential acceptance of the revised plan, the Russian assault caused explosions and significant turmoil throughout Kyiv. This violent attack led to the deployment of Romanian fighter jets in response and multiple reports of airspace violations in Moldova.

The bombardment not only caused fires in residential buildings and extensive damage to infrastructure across Ukraine but also saw a stray missile, labeled with a wartime “Z,” crashing into a home in Moldova. Additionally, six lethal Russian drones breached Moldovan airspace in one of the most severe violations since Russia’s full-scale invasion began.

A total of 22 missiles and 460 drones were unleashed, forcing Ukrainians to seek shelter and disrupting essential services like water, electricity, and heating in parts of the capital. The Moldovan Defense Ministry issued a cautionary statement urging citizens to report any foreign objects sighted and to refrain from touching any fallen items, instead advising them to alert the authorities.

In a separate incident, a drone entered Romanian airspace from Vylkove, Ukraine, heading towards the Kilia Veche area. Romanian authorities responded by sending out two F-16 Fighting Falcon jets and issuing an alert. Subsequently, another airspace violation was detected in the same region, prompting the F-16s to establish radar contact.

Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky emphasized the urgency of saving lives daily and stressed the importance of weaponry, air defense, and sustained sanctions against the aggressor. He called for continuous international assistance and unity in diplomatic efforts, emphasizing the necessity of pressuring Russia effectively. Meanwhile, Kyiv Mayor Vitali Klitschko reported casualties and damages in different areas of Kyiv due to the attacks.

Amidst discussions between Ukraine and European leaders regarding a potential peace agreement, there are hopes to minimize concessions made in the Trump-Putin peace plan to align more closely with European interests. US President Donald Trump’s shifting stance, perceived as favoring Moscow, has drawn criticism for his recent comments chastising Ukraine for its response to the conflict and proposing a controversial 28-point plan, widely believed to align with Russian interests. The plan includes demands that Ukraine give up control of occupied Donbas, commit to never joining NATO, and exclude European troops, requirements that many experts believe Kyiv cannot accept given the sacrifices it has already endured.
