Samsung TV owners in the UK are set to receive a significant upgrade at no cost, providing them with access to additional content. UKTV has announced that its popular free-to-air linear channels will soon be accessible on Samsung screens, allowing viewers in the UK to watch without the need for extra devices for the first time.
The channels will be streamed over the internet, eliminating the requirement for a traditional aerial connection. Samsung will also introduce a dedicated section on its home screen to showcase content from the U streaming service, making it easier for users to discover and watch classic comedies, dramas, and factual shows without navigating through menus.
In the upcoming months, channels like U&DRAMA, U&Dave, U&YESTERDAY, U&W, and U&eden will be accessible through a direct link from Samsung’s Universal Guide to the U app. This rollout is expected to reach millions of Samsung TVs, with the channels prominently featured in the platform’s ‘Live’ tab and Universal Guide, ensuring easy access to UKTV’s live and on-demand content for viewers relying on internet-based TV services.
Jonathan Newman, General Manager of Commercial at UKTV and BBC Studios UK and Ireland, expressed that the partnership with Samsung strengthens their collaboration and enhances accessibility to the U app for Samsung customers. Likewise, Dan Harvie, Vice President of Home Entertainment and Appliances at Samsung UK and Ireland, emphasized the importance of UKTV’s contribution to the entertainment options available on Samsung TVs, aiming to enhance the overall viewing experience for customers.
As the leading TV brand globally for 20 consecutive years, Samsung is dedicated to innovation and enhancing entertainment experiences. The partnership with UKTV aligns with Samsung’s commitment to providing a comprehensive entertainment ecosystem by integrating UKTV’s content with services like Samsung TV Plus and built-in broadcast app access. Although the exact launch date has not been disclosed, the new features are anticipated to roll out on Samsung TVs in the near future.
