“Sky Shifts Focus to Internet-Based Products as Humax Unveils Aura EZ 4K TV Recorder”

Sky Q, known for its exceptional performance, is a top-tier set-top box highly praised for its live TV recording capabilities and extensive access to premium channels, on-demand content, and popular streaming apps like Disney+ and Netflix. Despite its widespread popularity, Sky is shifting focus from its satellite-driven platform to internet-based products such as the Sky Stream box and Sky Glass TV, potentially paving the way for new competitors in the market.

Humax has unveiled the Aura EZ 4K TV Recorder, a new device that closely resembles the key features of Sky Q. Similar to Sky’s flagship box, it boasts a built-in 2TB hard drive for storing a vast amount of TV shows, movies, and sports content. With physical recording options becoming scarce, the introduction of a device with internal storage is a significant development.

The Aura EZ goes beyond aerial recordings by utilizing Freely technology, enabling users to stream live TV over broadband. Powered by the creators of Freeview, Freely provides access to over 60 live channels and a rich library of on-demand programs. This feature allows for easy relocation of the box, straightforward installation, and regular software updates.

Noteworthy features of the Aura EZ include 4K HDR picture quality, Dolby Digital Plus audio, and a user-friendly integrated TV guide displaying current and upcoming programs. Users can remotely control the box through the Humax Aura EZ smartphone app, facilitating schedule browsing and recording management from any location.

While Freely lacks premium sports and movie offerings like Sky, it is a free service without any subscription fees.

The Humax Aura EZ is scheduled for release in the UK in February 2026, priced at £249.

In a related development, Sky has announced a new subscription bundle that integrates multiple major streaming services at a reduced monthly cost. Priced at £24 per month, customers can access Disney+, Netflix, Hayu, and the upcoming HBO Max. The bundle is designed to offer value by consolidating various streaming platforms under one subscription. Subscribers to the Ultimate TV plan will also receive over 130 premium channels, including Sky Comedy, Sky Documentaries, Sky Crime, and Sky History.

Additionally, Sky Cinema customers will benefit from a new Disney movie channel directly added to the TV guide.

The £24 bundle includes:

– Netflix Standard with Ads
– Disney+ Standard with Ads (starting March)
– HBO Max Basic with Ads (starting March 26)
– Hayu (available from July, with selected content accessible from March)
– Over 130 Sky channels
