An abusive stepfather has confessed to fatally beating his toddler stepson after the child soiled his diaper. Paulo Cesar da Silva Santos, 23, hurried his two-year-old stepson, Henry Gabriel, to an emergency room in Queimados, Rio de Janeiro, where medical staff discovered severe bruising and contacted the authorities and child protection services. Tragically, the toddler passed away, and the stepfather admitted to striking him with an open hand and a slipper due to the diaper incident.
Santos was apprehended by the police, who revealed that witnesses had reported his history of violent behavior. The child’s father, David dos Santos Barreto, expressed devastation, noting that his son had endured physical abuse, as evidenced by multiple injuries listed in the medical report.
Charges of aggravated homicide have been brought against Santos, with some witnesses alleging prior assaults on the child and a record of substance abuse. Family members disclosed that the toddler resided with his mother, Yasmin, and Santos during the week, and that Yasmin had instructed Santos to take the boy to her mother’s house on the fateful morning.
The investigating officers stated that the child had developed fear towards his stepfather, as confirmed by the child’s grandmother’s testimony. Neighbors attested to hearing the child’s distress during previous altercations. The police clarified that the mother was unaware of Santos’ abusive behavior towards the child, and investigations are ongoing pending forensic results.
In a separate incident, a former beauty queen was accused of fatally beating her boyfriend’s son, an 18-month-old, out of resentment. Trinity Poague, 20, allegedly committed the act in her dorm at Georgia Southwestern State University in 2024, desiring to start her own family with her boyfriend. Prosecutors argued in court that her actions stemmed from jealousy towards the boyfriend’s attention to his son.
