“Survey: Financial Strain Limits Kids’ After-School Clubs”

Four out of every ten parents are facing challenges affording after-school clubs for their children, a recent survey reveals. The study, which involved 1,000 parents with kids aged eight to sixteen, found that parents have spent an average of £570 in the past year on extracurricular activities. This financial strain has resulted in 44% of parents feeling guilty as the rising costs force their children to miss out on various sports and performing arts activities like theatre and music. Trips, subscription fees, and equipment costs are some of the expenses families struggle to cover.

The research, conducted by The London Cabaret Club, introduces a new initiative led by co-founders Evelina Girling and Doni Fierro. The program aims to assist young individuals who cannot afford arts classes or extracurricular training to pursue careers in the performing arts. The charity, in partnership with The King’s Trust and TV personality Tasha Ghouri, aims to address the financial barriers hindering young talent from entering the entertainment industry.

Nearly half of the parents confessed that their children had to give up after-school clubs or activities they were passionate about due to financial constraints. Despite this, 77% of parents believe their children could pursue a career in the arts with the right support, with 84% recognizing the importance of arts and performance-based clubs in a child’s development. However, parents cite limited school support and social pressure to focus on academic subjects as hindrances to their children’s artistic aspirations.

Girling, CEO and co-founder of The London Cabaret Club, emphasized the need to break down financial and educational barriers preventing young people from pursuing creative careers. The organization is offering opportunities for young talent to appear in their new Italian-themed show. As they celebrate their 10th anniversary, they express pride in supporting young talent through the program and encourage other industry players to join in creating opportunities for the next generation.
