A 23-year-old British tourist, Alvina Omisri Agba, was apprehended by authorities at Miami International Airport for allegedly taking a four-year-old boy from his mother and refusing to return him. At the airport, witnesses reported seeing Agba sitting on the floor with the child, claiming that the boy belonged to her when approached by the mother.
The incident unfolded as the child and his mother were waiting in line at the airport check-in. Agba purportedly offered to calm the crying child down, and the mother agreed to let her take the boy. However, Agba then walked away with the child, holding him tightly so he couldn’t escape when confronted by police.
Despite a struggle between Agba and the child’s mother, airport staff and officers were able to intervene and prevent further escalation. The child sustained minor injuries but was fit to continue the journey with his mother. Agba, hailing from Luton, now faces charges of interfering with custody and battery, with a bail set at $3,500 (£2,600).
Eyewitnesses, including Dayanis Ojeda, a check-in desk supervisor, recalled the chaotic scene that unfolded at the airport. Agba allegedly attempted to take the child forcefully, but was stopped by three men before attempting to flee. She later claimed she was following divine guidance and aiming to soothe the child by showing him a painted rainbow wall.
The circumstances surrounding Agba’s actions and her relationship with the child and his mother remain unclear. The tourist is currently detained at the Turner Guilford Correctional Center, with no indications of substance influence during the incident as per local media reports.
