“Unrecognized Signs of Diabetes Impacting Intimacy”

A health specialist has raised awareness about less recognized signs of diabetes that may manifest primarily during intimate moments. Dr. Michael Krychman, an expert in obstetrics and gynaecology, points out that some indicators of the condition tend to go unnoticed, often not immediately associated with diabetes.

Dr. Krychman highlights that there are various diabetes-related cues that become more apparent in the bedroom. These indicators, he explains, can impact both men and women, although they are commonly linked to other health or emotional concerns.

Recent research from the University of California, San Francisco (UCSF) supports Dr. Krychman’s observations. The study reveals that women with diabetes frequently report reduced levels of sexual satisfaction, especially those on insulin therapy facing a higher risk of complications as reported by Glasgow Live.

Dryness: Fluctuating blood sugar levels and hormonal changes can influence natural lubrication. High blood sugar levels may lead to dehydration, causing dryness that can make intimate contact uncomfortable or painful.

Dr. Krychman notes, “Vaginal dryness is a common issue among women with diabetes due to fluctuations in poorly controlled blood sugar levels. Dryness can result in discomfort during intercourse and decreased overall pleasure and satisfaction.”

Reduced blood circulation: Diabetes can hinder circulation, causing decreased blood flow to intimate areas. Dr. Krychman points out, “We observe a significant reduction in blood flow due to vascular changes associated with diabetes.”

Neuropathy: Diabetes has the potential to induce nerve damage and reduced sensation, affecting sensitivity during intimate encounters. Dr. Krychman emphasizes, “Diabetes-related nerve damage can alter overall sensual sensations, leading to reduced pleasure and satisfaction.”
