Homes equipped with smart meters stand to gain up to 100 hours of electricity cost savings through a new offer from Uswitch.com in partnership with EDF. The EDF Simply Fixed Nov26v10 tariff, priced at £1,599 annually for the average household, represents the most affordable fixed-rate option among major suppliers currently available.
This tariff surpasses the October price cap by £156, which is slated to rise by 0.2% in January. Participants in this offer will have a two-week window to download the Uswitch app and link their smart meters to claim the reimbursement for 100 hours of electricity expenses.
Upon smart meter integration, Uswitch will analyze the highest electricity expenditure incurred by the household over a continuous 100-hour period using historical smart meter data. Once the reimbursements are calculated, customers can view their pending payments in the ‘earn’ section of the Uswitch app.
After the payments become accessible, households can transfer the funds directly to their bank accounts, with Uswitch aiming for all participants to have access to their earnings by the new year. The reimbursement for 100 hours of electricity usage will differ for each household, determined by individual consumption patterns and previous tariff rates, with a maximum total reimbursement capped at £50.
Energy expert Will Owen from Uswitch.com emphasized the importance of securing lower energy rates amid the anticipated winter price hikes. He highlighted the EDF tariff as the most cost-effective deal currently offered by a major supplier, suggesting potential savings of £156 for those transitioning from a standard variable tariff. Furthermore, households with smart meters switching to this tariff can expect to receive the equivalent cost of 100 hours of electricity back, with the funds potentially reaching their accounts before the new year.
Owen advised households on standard tariffs, emphasizing the benefits of conducting an energy comparison to potentially secure more economical rates. The energy price cap is set at £1,755 from October 1 to December 31, with a slight increase to £1,758 for the period spanning January 1 to March 31, 2026.
A spokesperson from Uswitch highlighted the platform as a leading UK comparison service for home services switching, offering a free app that aids households in saving money through exclusive switching deals, daily energy usage insights, and opportunities to earn real cash via energy earning sessions. The app, powered by Uswitch’s Utrack technology, encourages customers to optimize and reduce their residential energy consumption.
