“Virgin Media Tops UK Broadband Speeds at 256.5Mbps”

Broadband has become an essential aspect of daily life, supporting activities like streaming entertainment, remote work, home security via internet-connected cameras, and managing smart home devices such as lighting and heating.

As more households adopt internet-connected gadgets and consume online content, the demand for fast and reliable broadband access has increased. However, not all internet service providers (ISPs) deliver the same level of performance.

A recent study by SpeedGo, a new broadband speed-testing service, reveals that Virgin Media leads in the UK with an impressive average download speed of 256.5Mbps. This speed allows for downloading a full HD movie in just over two minutes, significantly faster than the national average.

Following Virgin Media, Vodafone ranks second with an average download speed of 175Mbps, while BT (EE) secures the third position. TalkTalk lags behind with an average speed of nearly 95Mbps.

The average download speeds of the top ISPs in the UK are as follows:
– Virgin Media: 256.5Mbps
– Vodafone: 175.1Mbps
– BT (EE): 122.5Mbps
– Sky Broadband: 113.6Mbps
– TalkTalk: 94.7Mbps

In addition to download speeds, upload speeds are crucial for users handling large files or working remotely. Vodafone excels in this aspect, boasting an average upload speed of 83.6Mbps, surpassing Virgin Media, which ranks second with 47.2Mbps.

SpeedGo’s analysis reaffirms that in 2025, Virgin Media provided the fastest broadband internet in the United Kingdom, with an average download speed of 256.5Mbps. Vodafone led in average upload speed at 83.6Mbps.
