“Vonn discharged after leg injury: Resilience shines”

Lindsey Vonn has emotionally revealed that she has been discharged from the hospital after suffering a serious leg injury during the Winter Olympics. Vonn was transported to the hospital by air ambulance after a downhill event in Italy, where she had previously sustained an ACL injury.

Following multiple surgeries, the skiing icon was initially released from the Italian hospital to return to the United States for further medical care. In a poignant Instagram post, Vonn disclosed the extent of her injuries, including compartment syndrome and a fractured ankle, and praised her surgeon for saving her leg from amputation.

In a video shared on Instagram, Vonn detailed the complexities of her injuries, explaining how compartment syndrome can cause severe damage to muscles, nerves, and tendons. She credited Dr. Tom Hackett for performing a fasciotomy to prevent amputation and facilitate her recovery.

Expressing gratitude for the successful six-hour surgery, Vonn acknowledged the challenges she faced, including prolonged hospitalization due to low hemoglobin levels requiring a blood transfusion. Despite being wheelchair-bound with a broken ankle, Vonn remains optimistic about her rehabilitation and future recovery.

Vonn concluded with a message outlining her journey towards full recovery, anticipating additional surgeries for complete healing. She expressed relief at leaving the hospital and affirmed her commitment to rehabilitation, aiming to transition from a wheelchair to crutches in the coming weeks. Vonn’s positive outlook and determination underscore her resilience in the face of adversity.
