“Wetherspoon Chief Reinstates Tuna Jacket Potato”

The chief of Wetherspoon has reintroduced a menu item following a customer’s complaint about its removal.

Adam Gale, a dedicated Wetherspoon patron, expressed disappointment upon learning that the Rodboro Buildings pub in Guildford, Surrey, had discontinued tuna jacket potato from its menu. He pointed out in a letter to Tim Martin, the founder of Wetherspoon, that while other toppings like beans and cheese were still offered, the tuna option was missing. At the Rodboro Buildings, a jacket potato with a side salad and a single filling costs £7.73 with a soft drink or £9.26 with an alcoholic beverage.

Mr. Gale, residing in Cranleigh, conveyed his fondness for visiting Wetherspoon pubs nationwide but was specifically disheartened by the absence of tuna filling at his local Guildford venue. He requested the return of the tuna filling to the Guildford menu, noting his appreciation for the other filling options such as cheese and baked beans.

In response to the letter, Mr. Martin humorously admitted that he had transitioned from being a tuna-and-jacket-potato fan to preferring a chicken wrap and salad for lunch. He assured that tuna has been reinstated promptly, fulfilling the customer’s request.

Notably, Wetherspoon recently announced a freeze on food and drink prices for the upcoming months, following a previous price hike in January. Sir Tim Martin affirmed the intention to maintain prices at their current levels throughout the summer and autumn while criticizing the tax disparity between pubs and supermarkets.

Furthermore, Wetherspoon disclosed plans to open 30 new pubs in the next year, generating 1,800 job opportunities. Half of these new establishments will be managed directly by Wetherspoons, including locations in various cities such as Edinburgh, Farnham, Basildon, Manchester, London, and Glasgow. The company currently operates 794 pubs, having opened three and sold nine in the past year, down from its peak of 955 sites in 2015.
