“Tourist Bitten by Shark Despite Precautions”

A vacationer suffered injuries in a frightening shark incident while attempting to interact with the animal. The 26-year-old woman from China was participating in a scuba diving session in the Maldives when the shark attacked. Despite being on her menstrual cycle and taking precautions, including using a tampon, she encountered nurse sharks and pursued them for recreational purposes, resulting in deep bite wounds on her wrists.

Footage circulating on social media captured the extent of the woman’s injuries as the shark bit her arm. Despite the attack, she insisted on staying in the water to capture social media content. She even expressed dissatisfaction with her tour guide and chuckled while receiving medical attention for her wound.

Subsequently, the woman shared a video with friends showcasing her bruised arm, prompting concerns about infection. Following advice, she sought medical treatment at a local hospital, where her wound was cleaned, and she received a tetanus shot.

In a later interview, she mentioned that she didn’t feel much pain during the shark bite and remained calm. She speculated that her silver bracelet might have attracted the shark’s attention, causing the incident. Referring to the possibility of amputation, she remarked that crying wouldn’t solve the situation.

Contrary to assumptions, the Florida Museum of Natural History stated that menstruation does not significantly contribute to shark attacks. They explained that water pressure during swimming can temporarily halt menstrual blood flow, reducing the likelihood of blood attracting sharks.

This incident follows a recent tragedy where a woman was fatally attacked by a shark while swimming with her boyfriend in Australia. Livia Muhlheim, 25, lost her life, while her partner, Lukas Schindler, 26, remains in critical condition after the incident at Kylies Beach in Crowdy Bay.
