Sky has introduced two new smart home plans in the UK that feature internet-connected cameras with full cloud recordings starting at just £5 per month. This new offering is positioned as a cost-effective alternative to popular home security devices like Ring doorbells and Google’s Nest system, potentially saving consumers over £100 compared to purchasing a Ring system through Amazon.
The first plan includes a Sky Smart Doorbell and Chime for £5 per month, along with a £15 upfront fee. It offers features such as full HD video recording, instant alerts to your phone, customizable activity zones, two-way talk, and 30 days of cloud video storage.
For those seeking additional security measures, Sky offers the Smart Home Bundle with Smart Home Plan+ for £8 per month and a £20 upfront fee. This package includes an indoor camera and enhanced app features like scheduled arming and automatic arm modes.
Paul Sweeney, Managing Director of Sky Smart Home, emphasized the goal of making high-quality smart technology more accessible and user-friendly. These new plans aim to simplify home security management and connectivity, providing customers with effortless access to their homes.
Previously, Sky primarily offered Protect Smart Home Insurance, which combined cameras and alarms. With the introduction of these standalone smart home services, Sky Smart Home products are now more widely available for individual purchase.
In comparison, Amazon currently sells the Ring Doorbell with Chime for £119.99, with an additional cost for cloud recording access through a Ring Protect subscription starting at £4.99 per month.
