The television landscape in the UK is primarily dominated by Sky and Freeview, but a new competitor, Freely, has emerged as a strong contender since its introduction in 2024. With over one million households already adopting the service, Freely is gaining popularity for its expanding features and content offerings.
Since its inception, Freely has continued to enhance its platform, increasing its TV guide with more than 50 live channels that can be accessed without the need for traditional aerial or satellite dish installations.
A recent development by Freely is the introduction of Freely Spotlight Channels, providing additional entertainment options to households at no extra cost. These channels will be streamed exclusively through standard Wi-Fi connections.
According to Freely, the Spotlight Channels will be available on channel 31 and channels 90 to 99, accessible to CTV OS partners on Freely-enabled devices. V, the company behind the VIDAA OS used in Hisense TVs, has been confirmed as the launch partner for bringing its curated channel selection to the Freely TV Guide.
These new channels will complement existing UK broadcasters in the TV guide, offering selected channels increased visibility and credibility within the regulated UK TV landscape.
While specific content details for the Spotlight Channels are yet to be revealed, more information is expected closer to the launch date.
Deep Halder, Chief Commercial Officer at Everyone TV, expressed the company’s commitment to delivering value and creating opportunities for partners through the Freely platform. He highlighted the importance of ensuring free, trusted TV remains easily accessible to UK audiences amidst the evolving streaming landscape.
For those unfamiliar with Freely, it is operated by the same team behind Freeview and Freesat but offers a unique experience where all content is delivered via broadband, eliminating the need for traditional antennas or satellite dishes.
To access Freely, households only require a compatible TV or set-top box and a stable Wi-Fi connection. The platform currently boasts over 50 live channels, on-demand content, personalized recommendations, a comprehensive TV guide, and the capability to pause live TV.
