Declan Queally and Nico de Boinville have settled their disagreement following Queally’s claim that De Boinville made a racially abusive comment towards him during the Cheltenham Festival. The clash occurred during the Turners Novices’ Hurdle race, marked by a chaotic start with multiple false starts before the race officially began.
Queally, an Irish amateur rider, expressed his displeasure with De Boinville’s behavior, stating that being verbally abused by the English jockey was unsettling, especially as he was riding in front of his children. De Boinville retorted by suggesting Queally reflect on his own actions.
Queally later reported the incident, alleging racial undertones in De Boinville’s comments to the authorities. Despite initial tensions, a resolution was reached as both riders shook hands during an interview with ITV after a subsequent race. Queally affirmed that the situation was resolved, attributing the conflict to the heat of the moment and extending well wishes to De Boinville. In return, De Boinville expressed his appreciation for Queally and thanked Davy Russell for assisting in resolving the issue.
The reconciliation concluded with a handshake between the two riders before they prepared for their upcoming race, showcasing a display of sportsmanship. Former Champion Jockey AP McCoy commended their actions as appropriate and fair.
