“Ear Attached to Foot Saves Factory Worker’s Injury”

A woman at a factory in Jinan, China, had her ear ripped off in a machinery accident. Surgeons, led by Dr. Qiu Shenqiang, faced challenges due to severe damage to the blood vessels around the detached ear. To preserve the ear, they attached it to her foot using a procedure called heterotopic grafting.

In a rare move, the ear remained on her foot for months until it could be successfully transplanted back onto her head. The patient, Ms. Sun, expressed gratitude to the medical team after the ear was reattached. This incident mirrors another miraculous surgery where a woman had her skull reattached to her spine after a sports accident, leading to years of health struggles.

The woman, Megan King, underwent multiple operations over two decades to address the effects of the fall during a football match. Eventually, doctors managed to reattach her spine and head through a complex surgical procedure. Subsequent diagnosis revealed she had a rare genetic disorder, hypermobile Ehlers-Danlos syndrome, which required further medical interventions, including spinal fusions.

Despite becoming immobile due to the surgeries, Megan King remains resilient, stating that her condition does not define her ability to lead a fulfilling life.
