EE has unveiled an updated version of its Scam Guard service to combat the increasing prevalence of scams targeting mobile users in the UK. The enhanced service, available to all EE pay-monthly customers for a monthly fee of £2, aims to provide improved protection against cyber threats.
Since its initial launch in 2024, Scam Guard has successfully thwarted 169 million scam and spam attempts, demonstrating its efficacy in safeguarding subscribers. With the latest upgrade, EE anticipates doubling the number of prevented scams over the next year.
The core of the new Scam Guard is AI Triple-Lock Protection, a set of three digital security features powered by Norton’s Genie AI engine. These features include Safe Email, offering proactive scam protection for email accounts round the clock, and Safe SMS, which employs advanced AI technology to identify and block sophisticated scams in text messages in real time. Additionally, Safe Web utilizes AI to shield customers from online scams while shopping or browsing, preemptively blocking malicious websites to prevent potential harm.
The updated Scam Guard also introduces Scam Assistant, enabling customers to upload screenshots of suspicious texts, emails, websites, social media messages, or QR codes for immediate evaluation on their safety. Furthermore, Social Media Monitoring and Dark Web Monitoring monitor customers’ online activities for any suspicious behavior, issuing prompt notifications for quick action.
Malcolm Cubitt, EE’s Director of Product, Mobile, emphasized the importance of staying ahead of evolving fraud threats, noting the record-high levels of fraud in the UK. He highlighted EE’s commitment to enhancing cyber security measures and supporting customers by leveraging innovative solutions and industry partnerships to combat scams effectively.
By offering a comprehensive suite of protective features through the upgraded Scam Guard service, EE aims to empower customers with enhanced cybersecurity measures to navigate the digital landscape with confidence.
