A tragic incident occurred on the Sunshine Coast as a teenage girl lost her life after a fatal fall from a cliff while attempting to take a photograph. The 17-year-old, whose identity remains undisclosed, was visiting a lookout point on Queen of Colonies Parade in Moffat Beach with her family when the accident happened. She slipped and fell approximately 30 meters to her demise.
Authorities were alerted to the scene around 6:40 pm, where bystanders and paramedics rushed to assist the girl. Despite their efforts, she succumbed to severe head injuries sustained during the fall. Another woman also suffered minor injuries while trying to aid the teenager.
Emergency services have issued a warning against approaching the cliff edge too closely. Ryan Dubyk from Queensland’s Fire and Rescue emphasized the importance of maintaining a safe distance from the fences at lookouts, especially during this time of year, and year-round, urging visitors to respect the safety barriers in place.
The lookout, known for its panoramic views of Moffat Beach and the Coral Sea, attracts both tourists and locals. Queensland Police confirmed that a report will be submitted to the coroner regarding the sudden death of the teenage girl at Moffat Beach on December 13. The police were notified of the incident at 6:40 pm, responding to reports of the girl falling from the cliff. Despite their efforts, the girl was pronounced dead at the scene, with a second woman sustaining minor injuries while attempting to assist before emergency services arrived.
