Snooker’s newest world champion, Wu Yize, shared his heartfelt plans to use his prize money to buy a house and take his parents on a well-deserved trip after securing his first world title by defeating Shaun Murphy at The Crucible. The 22-year-old Chinese player, now holding £500,000 in prize money, expressed his gratitude towards his parents, labeling them as his true champions and the source of his strength.
In an interview with SportsBoom, Wu expressed his intentions, stating, “Buy a house and take my parents travelling. There are many things I’d like to buy. My parents are the true champions. They are the source of my strength. I love them so much.” Despite having plans for the money, Wu admitted he first wanted to relax and get some rest after feeling nervous throughout the intense match.
Reflecting on his triumph, Wu emphasized the significance of his mother, who had been battling health issues. He disclosed, “My mum wasn’t in very good health condition for a long time. During that time we were in Sheffield, she has been in hospital a lot. She is forever a source of strength to me.” Wu expressed his intention to have his mother by his side more often in the future, acknowledging her sacrifices and unwavering support during his early years in the UK.
Jason Ferguson, chairman of the snooker governing body, commended Wu’s outstanding achievement, highlighting the perseverance and dedication of Wu and his family throughout their journey in the sport. Ferguson praised Wu’s potential to continue excelling in the game, marking the beginning of a new era for the young champion.
