“Trump Sues BBC for $5B Over Capitol Riot Misrepresentation”

US President Donald Trump has filed a lawsuit against the BBC for $5 billion, alleging that they misrepresented his statements. The legal action stems from a segment on Panorama that aired before the 2024 US election, showing Trump’s remarks to supporters prior to the 2021 Capitol riots. The episode seemingly pieced together different parts of Trump’s speech, creating the impression that he directly incited the violence.

Following the controversy, the BBC issued an apology for the editing error but denied any legal wrongdoing on their part. Amid the ongoing dispute, the Mirror explores the BBC’s highest-paid personalities, as revealed in the network’s annual report.

In the latest salary disclosures by the BBC, notable changes were observed among the top earners. Former Match of the Day host Gary Lineker, who departed from the network, retained his status as the highest earner with earnings of £1.35 million. Zoe Ball, who took over from Lineker on Radio 2, earned £515,000 despite being replaced by Scott Mills on the Breakfast Show.

Alan Shearer, known for his role on Match of the Day, saw an increase in his earnings and ranked as the third-highest paid BBC star. Noteworthy additions to the top earners included radio host Nick Robinson and Radio 2 presenter Vernon Kay. Surprisingly, BBC North America Editor Justin Webb also secured a place in the top 10 earners, with an impressive salary of £365,000.

Vernon Kay made his debut on the list after joining BBC Radio 2, replacing Ken Bruce. Despite earning £320,000 in his first year, which was lower than Ken’s previous earnings, Kay’s inclusion marked a significant milestone in his broadcasting career.

Additionally, Huw Edwards, a controversial BBC News presenter, maintained his position as one of the network’s top earners, despite facing scrutiny over his personal life. Edwards’ salary ranged between £475,000 and £479,999, reflecting a slight increase from the previous year.
