Virgin Media has recently slashed the price of its fastest broadband offering to a new all-time low. The company has introduced a surprise sale that has reduced the cost of its ultra-fast Gig1 Fibre Broadband by over £70.
The Gig1 plan boasts speeds of up to 1,130Mbps and typically retails for £29.99 per month. However, it is now available for just £26.99, resulting in a total savings of £72 over the 24-month contract period, which translates to approximately 87p per day.
Virgin claims that this reduced rate is the cheapest ever for the Gig1 package. With these speeds, users can download a feature-length HD movie in under 30 seconds and have a 50GB PS5 game ready to play in less than seven minutes.
Although the £26.99 offer is enticing, Virgin has disclosed that the discounted rate will increase twice within the contract term, rising to £30.99 from April 2027 and further to £34.99 from April 2028. Additionally, the 1,130Mbps speeds may not be available in all UK locations, so interested customers are advised to check availability using Virgin’s postcode checker.
Comparatively, households with 70Mbps speeds would take more than 90 minutes to download the same game. This deal positions Virgin competitively against its rivals, with Sky’s 900Mbps plan priced at £28, slightly higher than Virgin’s offering but with slower speeds. Meanwhile, BT charges £37.99 for access to its 900Mbps connection.
For those seeking even faster speeds at competitive prices, Community Fibre is currently providing 1Gbps speeds for just £25 per month, with the first three months free and guaranteed price stability throughout the contract. However, this service is limited to London and certain south-east locations.
It’s important to assess individual needs before committing to a high-speed plan. For instance, a couple streaming Netflix daily may suffice with speeds around 100Mbps, while larger households with multiple users working from home, streaming content, and gaming may require speeds of at least 300Mbps.
Opting for Virgin’s 1Gbps fibre service is akin to having a high-speed motorway directly into your home, ensuring a smooth and fast online experience.
