Conor McGregor has finally exchanged vows with his long-time partner, Dee Devlin, after facing delays in deciding on a wedding location. The MMA star proposed to Devlin in 2020.
Initially, McGregor mentioned needing time to relax following his son’s christening in 2017, attributing the delay to his age. Speaking to RTE, McGregor expressed his desire to take a break, saying, “We just had a big celebration for the young boy. Let me unwind for a bit, give me some time. I’m still young at 29.”
After confirming the engagement, the couple had to make a decision on the wedding venue. McGregor expressed a preference for Dublin but emphasized the need for mutual agreement.
He stated, “My partner and I have been together for a long time. We are planning to wed soon, but we are still searching for a venue. I am eager, but we need to finalize the location. Should it be a grand affair or a private event? These are the decisions we are contemplating.”
Dee reportedly desired a wedding at the Sistine Chapel, but due to restrictions, they considered alternative locations. A source revealed their plan to marry before Christmas at the Vatican in Rome, settling for an intimate ceremony at the Cappella del Caro near St Peter’s Basilica.
The 37-year-old McGregor and Devlin finally tied the knot in a private ceremony at the Chiesa di Santo Stefano Degli Abissini, near the Basilica of St Peter, as confirmed by Vatican sources.
Despite concerns stemming from McGregor’s past controversies, including a civil trial in Dublin where he was found guilty of sexual assault, the couple remained steadfast. McGregor denied the allegations, emphasizing that the encounter was consensual.
Dee stood by McGregor throughout the legal proceedings, expressing her unwavering support for him on social media. Their relationship, which began in 2008 at a nightclub, has blossomed into a family of six, including four children.
