Now, a new Broadway musical titled “Dolly: A True Original Musical” is set to grace the stage, promising an authentic narrative straight from Dolly herself and featuring the iconic songs that have shaped her life.
At 80 years old, Dolly Parton announced the musical’s Broadway debut in a video, ensuring that the storytelling would be genuine, focusing on her roots, experiences, losses, loves, and personal growth rather than just surface glamour. The musical will showcase a blend of newly penned songs created specifically for the show alongside some of Dolly’s greatest hits like “I Will Always Love You,” “Jolene,” “Coat of Many Colors,” and “9 to 5.”
Scheduled to kick off on December 7 in New York City, the performances are slated to run until November 21, 2027. Parton expressed her excitement, describing this opportunity as a lifelong dream realized. Having a career spanning nearly seven decades, she has authored over 3,000 songs, sold more than 100 million albums globally, and is a distinguished member of both the Rock & Roll Hall of Fame and the Country Music Hall of Fame.
The musical initially premiered in Nashville last summer at the Fisher Center for the Performing Arts, enjoying a sold-out six-week run. Director Bartlett Sher commented on the profound connection audiences share with Dolly, highlighting her ability to inspire and bring joy to people’s lives. The show’s statement emphasizes the unveiling of Dolly’s unfiltered journey, showcasing a side of her that goes beyond the glitz and glam associated with rhinestones.
Tickets for the Broadway show will be available to the public starting Friday, July 10, offering fans a chance to witness Dolly Parton’s compelling story unfold on stage.
