Trump also shared an image depicting him lifting a large pipeline labeled “KEYSTONE” from a grave, with patriotic symbols in the background and a headstone blaming Biden for burying the project.
Though Trump made this claim, Canadian officials have not publicly responded to the statement regarding the project’s revival within the context of trade negotiations. The U.S. government announced a temporary pause on planned 50% tariffs on various Canadian goods to allow for further trade talks.
The history of the Keystone XL expansion dates back to its initial proposal in July 2008 under the leadership of former Prime Minister Stephen Harper and U.S. President George W. Bush.
