An Israeli airstrike in the central Gaza Strip on Sunday resulted in the deaths of two Palestinians, including a three-year-old child, as confirmed by health officials. The strike occurred near a bakery in Deir al-Balah, claiming the lives of Tayyem Hamdan, aged 3, and Hussam Nusair, along with causing injuries to several others.
According to Gaza medics, the Israeli military targeted and eliminated a Hamas militant, with Nusair allegedly being involved in attacks against Israeli forces and civilians. Hamas refrained from immediate comments on the military’s assertions.
While a U.S.-backed ceasefire in October managed to reduce major conflicts in the region, it did not prevent Israeli military strikes aimed at thwarting attacks by Hamas and other Gaza militant groups. Hamas has criticized Israel for breaching the ceasefire terms and impeding the implementation of a comprehensive plan proposed by U.S. President Donald Trump to resolve the Gaza crisis, which involves Israeli withdrawals and Hamas disarmament.
Since the ceasefire came into effect last October, more than 1,300 Palestinians have lost their lives in Gaza, as reported by health officials in Gaza. In contrast, the Israeli military has stated that four Israeli soldiers have been killed during this period.
