A highly-discussed film, “You Can See Everything,” is stirring up attention, sparking speculation about potential Oscars recognition. A24, the film’s distributor, is actively campaigning for award recognition, garnering significant industry interest. The storyline revolves around Elizabeth Holmes, the controversial figure behind Theranos, who allowed a film crew to document her final days before imprisonment.
Initially a portrait of Holmes, the film transforms into a unique experience, leaving viewers in awe. The push for an Oscar nomination in the best documentary category aligns with Canada’s historical success in this field. Surprisingly, A24 is also advocating for “You Can See Everything” to be considered for the best picture award – an unprecedented move in the documentary genre.
Breaking the norm further, the film is vying for nominations in various categories, including best director for Lance Oppenheim and Nathan Fielder. Notably, Canadians David Bolen and Adam Locke-Norton are proposed for best cinematography and film editing, respectively. Additionally, the film is being positioned for recognition in best original score, sound, and production design categories.
A unique aspect of the film is the suggestion for nominations in unconventional categories like costume design, makeup, and hairstyling, typically associated with fictional films. “Variety” has reported a separate campaign for Amanda Seyfried to be considered for best supporting actress for her role in the documentary, adding another layer of complexity to the film’s narrative.
The film’s innovative and boundary-pushing approach has captivated audiences and critics alike. The results of this unconventional awards season strategy will be unveiled when the Oscar nominations are announced on Jan. 21 next year, showcasing whether the Academy shares the same enthusiasm for the film’s bold cinematic endeavors.
