“Greggs Considers Vending Machine Rollout”

Greggs enthusiasts may soon have the option to buy sausage rolls and various pastries from a vending machine. The bakery chain executives are exploring the implementation of “unattended retail solutions,” which may include both automated and manual vending options. The specific launch date and locations for this initiative have not been disclosed yet. This development follows the successful introduction of three smaller Greggs Bitesize shops.

In its latest report, Greggs revealed a 17.9% decrease in statutory pre-tax profits to £167.4 million for the year ending December 27, compared to the previous year. The decline in profits is attributed in part to challenging market conditions and unusually hot weather. Despite this, Greggs managed to open a net of 121 stores in 2025, expanding its total store count to 2,739 locations.

The company aims to open approximately 120 more stores this year with a long-term goal of surpassing 3,000 UK locations. Greggs’ CEO, Roisin Currie, expressed optimism about improving consumer spending due to decreasing inflationary pressures. However, she acknowledged the ongoing challenges faced by customers, emphasizing the company’s preparedness for another demanding year.

Greggs recently announced no further price hikes for the year, after a recent increase in the price of a sausage roll to £1.35 in most outlets. Additionally, the cost of a regular latte rose by 10p to £2.25, while several prices, including meal deals, remained unchanged. The company also shared the success of its first-ever pubs, such as The Golden Flake Tavern, where over 20,000 customers visited, indulging in various beverages and popular dishes like Sausage Roll & Mash.
