Ireland’s national broadcaster, RTE, has announced a second consecutive boycott of the Eurovision Song Contest due to Israel’s involvement, citing concerns over the ongoing conflict in Gaza. RTE confirmed that Ireland will not be participating in the 2027 event in Bulgaria and will also not broadcast the show.
This decision by Ireland follows a similar move made by five other countries, including the Netherlands, Iceland, Slovenia, and Spain, who opted out of the Eurovision competition this year in protest against Israel’s participation.
AVROTROS, the Dutch broadcaster, recently declared that they will also be abstaining from the Eurovision Song Contest next year, labeling the event as a “platform for division.” AVROTROS highlighted that the competition can no longer be viewed as impartial, especially when a participating country is embroiled in a significant military conflict.
The upcoming Eurovision competition is scheduled to be held in May in Burgas, a Black Sea resort in Bulgaria.
