“Keown’s Player of the Match Pick Sparks Royal Debate”

Martin Keown has acknowledged that his choice for Player of the Match in Aston Villa’s 2-1 win over Arsenal might have ruffled some feathers among the royal family. Despite initially naming Martin Odegaard as the standout player before Emi Buendia’s late winning goal, Keown received flak from Prince William for his decision.

Following Buendia’s match-winning strike, Prince William took to Twitter to question Keown’s judgment, suggesting Buendia deserved the Man of the Match accolade. In response, Keown, who has connections to both Arsenal and Villa, took the criticism in good spirits, admitting his premature decision and jokingly proposing an unofficial change.

The victory marked Villa’s ninth successive win at home and their ninth triumph in the last 10 Premier League matches, with their only loss in that sequence coming against Liverpool. Meanwhile, Arsenal, who had only suffered one defeat in their previous 21 away Premier League games, will face Club Brugge in the Champions League after the defeat at Villa Park.

Reflecting on the match, Arsenal manager Arteta praised Villa’s performance, acknowledging his team’s struggles, particularly in defense, but also expressing disappointment with missed opportunities. Despite a positive start to the second half, Arsenal failed to capitalize on chances, ultimately conceding a late goal that sealed their fate.
