London authorities issued a rare public safety advisory following the release on bail of a 19-year-old man facing charges related to child sexual abuse material. The investigation was initiated on July 28 after reports surfaced that the individual had made threats against a teenage girl known to him. Connor Bennett, 19, was apprehended on July 30 for initially threatening to cause harm or death.
Subsequent to his arrest, additional charges were laid against Bennett for the possession and access of child sexual exploitation materials. He made a court appearance on Tuesday and was subsequently granted bail. In a press statement, the police expressed concerns regarding public safety, prompting them to inform the community about his release and urge individuals with relevant information to come forward.
Under the conditions of his bail, Bennett is required to reside in Thorold, Ont., near St. Catharines. Furthermore, he is prohibited from possessing or utilizing any electronic or Wi-Fi-enabled devices, having contact with individuals under 18 without his guardian present, and owning any weapons. Authorities are encouraging anyone possessing information pertinent to the case to reach out to them for assistance.
