“Man Fined for Insulting Neighbor in Weight Dispute”

A man in Warrington has been ordered to pay a £100 compensation fee for insulting a mother-of-two by calling her ‘fat’ during a dispute. Aaron Quinn, 33, caused distress to Sarah Allen with derogatory remarks about her size following a separate altercation with another neighbor.

Quinn, residing in Burton Wood, Warrington, explained that his actions were influenced by insomnia and grief over his mother’s recent passing. However, prosecutors contended that his verbal attack on Ms. Allen was prolonged and hurtful.

Appearing in Warrington Magistrates’ Court, Quinn pleaded guilty to using offensive language to cause distress and damaging a wall light. In addition to an £80 fine and a £114 surcharge, he received a 12-month restraining order preventing him from contacting Ms. Allen, who works as a barmaid and volunteers for a charity supporting domestic abuse survivors.

Following the incident on March 28, Quinn has relocated to another part of town. The conflict began when he had a disagreement with neighbors, leading to a confrontation at Michael Taylor’s residence.

Prosecutor Miss Renee Southern detailed the events, stating that Quinn banged and kicked on Taylor’s door, resulting in an argument. As Quinn left, he damaged an outdoor light and later engaged in a heated argument with Sarah Allen, making offensive comments about her weight.

Quinn’s solicitor, Gary Schooler, cited the recent death of Quinn’s mother and his struggle with chronic insomnia as contributing factors to his behavior. Despite past disputes with neighbors, there have been no further incidents since Quinn moved in with his supportive partner miles away.

During sentencing, JP Ian Johnston emphasized compensating Ms. Allen for the distress caused by Quinn’s repeated insults.
