“Parents of Bondi Beach Shooting Victim Honor Daughter”

The grieving parents of the youngest casualty in the Bondi Beach shooting have shared their emotions. Matilda, a ten-year-old girl, lost her life during the tragic incident at a Hanukkah celebration on Sydney’s Bondi Beach. Her parents, Valentyna and Michael, who relocated from Ukraine to Australia before the Russian invasion, expressed their sorrow at a memorial gathering at Bondi Pavilion, attended by over 2,000 individuals.

Michael, speaking through tears, unexpectedly took the microphone, revealing that they named Matilda as she was their first child born in Australia, believing it to be the most Australian name possible. He urged everyone to remember her name while emotionally acknowledging his family. Valentyna, deeply distressed, described the heart-wrenching moment when Matilda was shot by one of the attackers, emphasizing the pain etched in her heart.

During the ceremony, Rabbi Yossi Friedman announced the upcoming burials of the victims, including Matilda and others. Additionally, the courageous couple, Boris Gurman and Sofia Gurman, who valiantly tried to stop one of the attackers and tragically lost their lives, were identified. The family of Boris and Sofia expressed pride in their bravery and selflessness, emphasizing their instinct to protect others, a true reflection of their character.
