The Duke and Duchess of Wales have arrived to offer their condolences at the funeral of the Duchess of Kent.
Earlier today, it was confirmed that William and Kate would attend the service at Westminster Cathedral for the wife of the Duke of Kent, who is the late Queen’s cousin, following the Duchess’s passing earlier this month.
Members of the Royal Family, including King Charles, Prince Andrew, Princess Anne, and Sophie, the Duchess of Edinburgh, attended the service. William and Kate, both dressed in black, traveled together to the event.
William sported a white handkerchief in his top pocket, while Kate wore a black hat with a large bow at the back, along with pearl earrings and a four-strand pearl and diamond choker necklace that belonged to Queen Elizabeth II.
Queen Camilla did not attend the funeral due to acute sinusitis, as announced by Buckingham Palace.
The Duchess of Kent, Katharine, passed away peacefully at the age of 92 on September 4 at her home. Her Catholic funeral, a requiem mass, marked the first such service for a member of the monarchy in modern British history.
Upon the Duchess’s demise, William and Kate honored her with a heartfelt message, expressing their sympathy for the Duke of Kent and his family.
The Duchess’s coffin was transported from her Kensington Palace residence to Westminster Cathedral, where it was placed in the Chapel of the Blessed Virgin Mary overnight.
Today’s funeral will include a Scottish bagpipe lament, similar to the one performed at the late Queen’s funeral three years ago.
Katharine Worsley, known for presenting trophies at Wimbledon and consoling Jana Novotna during a tennis match, stepped away from royal duties in 2002 to work as a music teacher in Hull.
Despite her low profile in recent years, the Duchess attended Prince Harry and Meghan Markle’s wedding in 2018 and was last seen in public at an event celebrating her husband’s birthday last October.
