Russia Launches Missiles and Drones in Kyiv Assault

Ukrainian officials reported that Russia launched a prolonged attack on Kyiv and other cities, targeting ports, industrial sites, and retailers’ distribution facilities with missiles and drones. The assault, which included ballistic missiles and drones, was partially thwarted by Ukrainian air defenses.

Commuters in the capital city of Kyiv were greeted by the sounds of air defense systems engaging drones following an overnight onslaught that involved an unspecified number of ballistic missiles and 258 drones, according to the Ukrainian military.

Foreign Minister Andrii Sybiha stated that Russia conducted a massive strike on Ukraine, hitting ports, grain storage, energy, industry, and other critical infrastructure using ballistic and hypersonic missiles along with combat drones.

The Ukrainian military successfully intercepted seven ballistic missiles, showcasing an improved defense capability attributed to the recent acquisition of Patriot interceptors from the United States, as mentioned by President Volodymyr Zelenskyy.

The limited availability of Patriot interceptors has left Ukraine exposed to Russia’s aerial assaults, despite their effectiveness against fast-moving ballistic missiles that are challenging to intercept.

In response to Russia’s full-scale invasion of Ukraine, attacks were reported on various facilities, including an online retailer’s logistics complex in Ufa. Ukrainian forces have also targeted e-commerce giants like Wildberries and Ozon, which are deemed to support Russia’s military efforts.

Amid the ongoing conflict, Ukraine received additional support from allies such as Britain, which pledged classified technology for the local production of Storm Shadow cruise missiles. Moscow issued a warning, threatening to target British military assets within and outside Ukraine in response to the use of British weaponry in Ukrainian strikes on Russian territory.

Air-raid sirens and attacks

Air-raid sirens continued to blare in Kyiv as attack drones traversed multiple neighborhoods, causing injuries to four individuals amid the debris fallout.

In Kharkiv, a lunchtime attack on a shopping center resulted in one fatality and two injuries, according to regional governor Oleh Syniehubov. Additionally, major Ukrainian retailer COMFY and a prominent toy company reported damage to their distribution centers, along with the destruction of a warehouse belonging to Roshen, a leading chocolate manufacturer founded by former Ukrainian President Petro Poroshenko.
