“Russian Official Warns of ‘Inevitable’ Conflict with Europe”

A high-ranking Russian official has stated that a conflict between Russia and Europe is “inevitable”.

Deputy Foreign Minister Alexander Grushko also mentioned that Europe is actively getting ready for a potential armed confrontation with Russia.

During the Organisation for Security and Co-operation in Europe (OSCE) Foreign Ministerial Council in Austria, TASS reported that Grushko pointed out Europe’s view of Russia as a “long-term threat”.

Grushko emphasized, “There is a deliberate readiness in progress within the economy, society, and military structure for an unavoidable armed conflict with Russia, which has been identified as a long-term threat with absurd accusations of aggressive intentions.”

He also raised concerns about the situation at the OSCE, stating that it is “on the verge of a breakdown”. He mentioned, “Discussions aimed at de-escalating military tensions within the structured dialogue were initially halted and then proceeded without the involvement of Russia and Belarus, in clear violation of established procedures, leading to a severe crisis within this framework.”

NATO Secretary General Mark Ruttle remarked on December 3 that the alliance must maintain “constant vigilance” due to Russia’s increasingly risky behavior towards NATO.

During a press briefing, Ruttle highlighted that Russia allocates 40% of its state budget to defense, emphasizing the need for NATO to respond. He stressed the importance of allies stepping up their efforts.

Regarding the goal of achieving a 5% GDP defense spending target by 2035, Ruttle expressed, “It is not just about figures; it is about forging a more robust, adaptable Alliance capable of deterring any aggression and safeguarding every inch of Allied territory.”

Meanwhile, the UK and Norway have recently signed a defense pact that involves jointly operating a fleet of warships to safeguard undersea cables from potential threats posed by Russian submarines.

British authorities have voiced concerns about the increasing risks to these cables from Moscow, with Sir Keir Starmer describing the newly announced agreement with Norway as “significant”.

Starmer stated, “Amidst significant global uncertainties and the heightened presence of Russian vessels in our waters, it is crucial that we collaborate with international partners to uphold our national security. This groundbreaking agreement with Norway enhances our capability to defend our borders and vital infrastructure essential to our nations’ well-being.”
