A coalition of soccer fan organizations worldwide has initiated a petition demanding the resignation of FIFA President Gianni Infantino following his proposal to sell future World Cup revenues to private investors. The petition, tagged as InfantinOut, also advocates for the restructuring of FIFA to prevent similar controversies in the future.
The petition strongly condemns Infantino’s failed attempt to commercialize the World Cup, labeling it as a betrayal of football that will not be forgotten. Notable fan groups involved in the initiative include Football Supporters Europe, Football Supporters Africa, the Independent Supporters Council in North America, and approximately 40 national fan groups globally.
Despite facing calls for his departure from prominent soccer bodies like UEFA, CONCACAF, and the Asian Football Confederation, Infantino has remained defiant. The petition criticizes his leadership as undemocratic, citing opaque decision-making, a personality cult, and lack of accountability within FIFA.
Highlighting Infantino’s controversial track record, including his support for divisive projects like the European Super League and the proposal for biennial World Cups, the petition emphasizes the need for his resignation to restore FIFA’s credibility and safeguard the integrity of the sport.
