Some Taylor Swift music has been taken out of social media content shared by the campaign of U.S. President Donald Trump and the White House, which had utilized two of the singer’s tracks in the past week. There was no immediate response from the White House or a representative for Swift when asked for comments.
Although Swift has not recently addressed Trump directly, she did endorse his Democratic opponent, then-Vice President Kamala Harris, in 2024. During the 2020 election, Swift expressed on social media her opposition to Trump as president.
Trump has been critical of Swift, particularly after her endorsement of Harris. On social media, he has expressed strong negative sentiments towards her. Several artists, including Sabrina Carpenter and Ariana Grande, have also requested that the Trump administration refrain from using their music.
The Trump campaign featured two Swift songs on its TikTok page in the past week, with one video referencing her famous tracks. In a June video, Trump’s campaign used Swift’s song “I Knew It, I Knew You” from the fictional movie “Toy Story 5” to depict Trump’s affinity for the country and its people.
This was not the first time the Trump administration or campaign had included Swift’s music in their content. In April, a video showed the crew of Artemis II meeting Trump at the White House, featuring Swift’s song “High Infidelity.” Another TikTok video in November incorporated Swift’s song “The Fate of Ophelia” from her album “The Life of a Showgirl,” accompanied by various images related to the U.S. and Trump.
The use of Swift’s music in these videos sparked significant reactions on social media. A White House spokesperson mentioned that these videos were intended to gain media attention. The Trump communication team, known for its active presence on social media, has shared numerous popular songs along with visuals depicting various political events.
These actions have led to requests from artists like Ariana Grande for the Trump administration to cease the use of their music in what they describe as “barbaric, inhumane, heinous nonsense.”
