Toronto Blue Jays star player Vladimir Guerrero Jr. has been cleared to return to the lineup after a brief stint on the injured list. He will make his comeback against the New York Yankees on Saturday.
Guerrero sustained an injury during a game against the Yankees last week when he collided with George Lombard Jr., a rookie shortstop for New York, in a peculiar play at third base during the sixth inning. Despite the collision causing Guerrero’s helmet to come off, he managed to score a run before leaving the game.
Following his recovery, Guerrero successfully passed all necessary concussion evaluations and even participated in a minor league rehab game with single-A Dunedin, where he hit a double. He rejoined the Blue Jays on Friday and was slotted into the second spot in the batting order for Saturday’s game against the Yankees.
In a corresponding roster move, the Blue Jays sent Davis Schneider down to triple-A Buffalo after their loss to the Yankees in the series opener on Friday. Guerrero, who boasts a .263 batting average with seven home runs and 46 RBIs, was in good form before the injury, hitting .310 in his last seven games.
