Emma Raducanu takes her time in search for new coach

Emma Raducanu has expressed that she is not in a hurry to secure a new permanent coach following her recent split with another coach earlier this year. Raducanu ended her partnership with Francisco Roig after the Australian Open and has adopted a new coaching approach.

Roig marked the ninth coach and seventh full-time official coach to be let go by Raducanu in her career. The 2021 US Open champion decided to part ways with Roig, who had previously collaborated with Rafael Nadal for 18 years, due to differences in opinions regarding her playing style.

Since January, Raducanu has been collaborating with her hitting partner Alexis Canter and is content with the current arrangement as she prepares for the Indian Wells tournament in California, where she is set to face Anastasia Zakharova in the opening round.

The 23-year-old has previously worked with a list of coaches including Nigel Sears, Andrew Richardson, Torben Beltz, Dmitry Tursunov, Sebastian Sachs, Nick Cavaday, Vladimir Platenik, Mark Petchey, and Roig. While she continues to work on a daily basis with Petchey, who is also a broadcaster with the Tennis Channel, he is not available full-time.

Raducanu shared her thoughts with BBC Sport in California, emphasizing her desire to reconnect with her natural playing style and instincts. She expressed openness to coaching but highlighted the challenge of finding a coach who aligns perfectly with her needs and preferences.

Praise was given to Petchey by Raducanu following their collaboration at Wimbledon last summer, with Raducanu highlighting his significant impact on her tennis and personal development. She appreciated his support and mentorship, recounting a meaningful conversation during a hike in L.A. that spurred self-reflection.
