Conor McGregor Opts Out of UFC White House Event

Conor McGregor has officially announced that he will not be participating in the UFC’s event at the White House.

Initially rumored to headline the event on President Donald Trump’s front lawn against Michael Chandler on June 14, McGregor is now anticipated to make his return to the octagon in July instead. UFC CEO Dana White is set to reveal the White House card on Saturday night, but McGregor’s name is expected to be absent, with plans for his comeback on July 11.

In an interview with Smash Cast, McGregor expressed his understanding of the situation, stating that the White House opportunity was on the table but now the focus has shifted to a potential fight during International Fight Week. He acknowledged Chandler as a worthy opponent and expressed readiness to face him, despite the change in plans.

McGregor also disclosed that his return to the cage will be at welterweight, emphasizing his increased size and physicality compared to before. He mentioned ongoing discussions with his manager in Las Vegas regarding potential matchups and expressed eagerness for a competitive offer.

With McGregor out of the White House card lineup, speculation arises that Jon Jones might headline the event, possibly facing former middleweight and light-heavyweight champion Alex Pereira, who recently vacated his 205lb belt.

In conclusion, McGregor’s decision not to participate in the White House event has opened up possibilities for other headline matchups, setting the stage for an exciting event in the UFC calendar.
