“Millionaire Dale Vince Launches Kids-Only Mobile Plan”

A generous supporter of the Labour party has taken a proactive stance against potential government actions to restrict children’s use of social media. Dale Vince, a vocal critic, criticized tech moguls Elon Musk and Mark Zuckerberg for what he perceives as their unrestricted influence on young people.

Responding to parents’ primary concern, the founder of Ecotricity, a green energy company, has introduced a new mobile plan that offers unlimited calls and texts for children but prohibits internet access. Millionaire Dale Vince argued that this traditional plan is necessary due to the harmful content children encounter, calling on government officials to take action.

This development comes as pressure mounts on the government to implement a ban on social media access for individuals under the age of 16. Recently, over 60 Labour MPs urged Prime Minister Keir Starmer to follow Australia’s lead, which implemented such a ban in December. Other countries are reportedly contemplating similar legislation, with Starmer not ruling out the possibility of introducing a ban.

Among Mr. Vince’s various business ventures is Ecotalk, a mobile service riding on EE’s network, using profits to support land restoration and rewilding projects. The company has launched a new SIM-only plan named Just Talk, offering unlimited UK calls and texts starting at £4 per month. Notably, this plan excludes internet access, unlike most similar options available.

Mr. Vince emphasized the importance of the Just Talk tariff in limiting the influence of tech giants on children, addressing a key demand from customers, particularly parents. He expressed concerns about irresponsible online platforms placing undue pressure and risks on young individuals. By launching the kids SIM initiative, Ecotalk aims to protect children from the influence of prominent tech figures without waiting for government action.

Established by Mr. Vince in 2018, Ecotalk collaborates with Chris Packham, a well-known presenter, who serves as its chief ecologist. Together, they are working on ecological restoration projects across two locations in Sussex and Devon.
