A tragic incident unfolded as a married couple, Linda and Gary Lightfoot, were discovered deceased after becoming lost on their way home from a Thanksgiving gathering. The couple, aged 81 and 82 respectively, went missing when they failed to return to Lubbock, Texas, from Panhandle, Texas, a journey they had made numerous times before.
Authorities found the bodies of Linda and Gary on a ranch in Quay County, New Mexico, following a report of a possible sighting of their vehicle. The couple, who left their cell phone at home, appeared to have taken a route through Amarillo, deviating from the direct path between Panhandle and Lubbock.
Family members described Linda and Gary as genuine and kind individuals with a legacy of love and devotion. Gary, a military veteran and former law enforcement officer, was also skilled in wood crafting, creating intricate pieces with a scroll saw. Linda, who worked in the oil and gas industry and banking, was known for her generosity in giving cards and gifts for various occasions.
The couple’s relatives highlighted Linda and Gary’s strong community involvement, attending church regularly and showing love to those around them. They are survived by their son, Gregg, Linda’s sister Barbara, and Barbara’s husband Waylon, as well as nieces and nephews. The family expressed appreciation for the search efforts and stressed the importance of preparedness while traveling to prevent future tragedies.
